From the President

CTTA believes that tennis is a sport for all ages, races, and economical backgrounds and is committed to providing lessons to the youth, adults, and seniors.  Our primary mission is basic - to promote the sport of tennis and to give the youth in the inner city of Austin, particularly in East Austin, the opportunity to participate in a sport they would not otherwise be exposed.

Our most important objective is to attract young people to the great sport of tennis and to promote participation of all ages all awhile making it more affordable.  CTTA sponsors several tennis classes for the young and old alike, and beginners as well as more advanced players.  Spearheaded and led by our President, Sarah Pernell, whose tireless leadership and dedication has been a source of inspiration, our youth development program has grown to become one of the largest in the Austin area.

I started this organization with a $500 grant that I received from USTA.  Our other means of funding comes from our annual tennis tournament called Summer Jam.  It has brought over 300 players from all across Texas since it started in 1997.  It continues to be a great tournament for our organization. Other than that, we are able to get small sponsorships from local businesses and receive donations of all kinds throughout the year.  CTTA receives used balls, rackets, clothing, and shoes and socks from individuals and local businesses.  We also get donations of water, Gatorade, and snacks from parents.  I run this program in conjunction with another not for profit organization called Project Helping Hand.  Through this program we provide tutoring, mentoring, counseling, clothing, food, housing and utilities assistance.  Many of my kids come through both programs.

CTTA and I have been featured in several local and nationally known magazines, newspapers, news stories, and most recently YouTube.  We've received loads of awards and continue to serve the youth of our community in bringing affordable tennis instruction, fun activities and events, and community outreach support.   It has been a blessing to say the least.

Many people have given generously of their time by volunteering as tennis instructors, chaperones, mentors, and tournament officials. Without their enthusiastic and dedicated help, we could not begin to accomplish our goals. We owe each and everyone-- including our sponsors, participants, and volunteers -- our THANKS and sincere gratitude.

We hope you take an interest and come out and join us this year.
