Jocelyn Chambers composed and orchestrated her 2nd full orchestral score at age 15 and was again chosen to have her score Premiered by the Austin Symphony Orchestra. The Texas Young Composers Concert featuring Jocelyn and nine composers age 18 and under, was held at the Long Center for the Performing Arts on April 3, 2013.
Jocelyn radiates the focused, intense energy you’d expect from the teen so talented to compose the lush ‘My Heart’ premiered in 2012 and ‘Paradise’ (2013) for the Texas Young Composers Concert. In 2011, Jocelyn became the first female winner of the Austin Symphony Orchestra’s Texas Young Composer Competition.
Jocelyn started playing the piano at age 7. At age 13, she was teaching herself to compose and then began music composition lessons with Dr. Rachel McInturff at the Armstrong Community Music School. She sings the praises of her “best friend,” Beethoven.
Jocelyn is a homeschooled high school Junior and aspires to be a film composer. She refers to her composing as a gift from God. When asked about her future plans she said, “I see myself with an Oscar for Best Original Score. Why not start early? I want to have a library, a music library, reading library, writing library.” Catch Jocelyn Chambers guiding guests to their seats as a volunteer usher at The Long Center.
KLRU/PBS has filmed a documentary about Jocelyn and the Texas Young Composers. The full documentary will air on KLRU on Thursday, May 30, 2013 at 5:30 p.m. CT. Watch the 1 minute trailer
